Ubisoft has outlined the future of Rainbow Six Siege as the competitive multiplayer shooter enters its sixth year.
The company said that Siege, which has more than 70 million registered players, is undergoing major changes to the core game over the course of this year, as well as new tools to encourage positive behavior. The video below details all the changes:
The sixth year begins with its first season, dubbed the Crimson Heist. This brings up the Argentine attacker Flores and the reworking of the Frontera map. Season 2 features a Nakoda Nations operator and a reworking of the Favela map. The third season adds operators from Croatia and slight modifications to three maps. The last carrier of the year is from Ireland, and Outback will be reworked.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft has focused on player behavior. The reputation system tool, which rewards positive players with in-game content while punishing toxicity by limiting access to ranked playlists, will be made transparent so that players can see how to increase their scores by adapting their behavior.
A streamer mode has been designed for streamers to control their anonymity while playing games. This tool allows them to hide their name, region and ping, hide everyone else in the match, include a hidden delay in matchmaking, and hide their current authorization level and profile picture.
A number of game updates are planned. A new secondary weapon, Gonne-6, is ready for play. Players will be able to control cameras and devices after their death. The attackers will have the opportunity to change their operators and charge as many times as they want in the preparation phase. And the armor will change to health, so that players better understand how much damage they can take.
Ubisoft is also taking continuous action against DDoS attacks, which it said fell by 90 percent this year. The technical team is working with Microsoft Azure to further reduce peering time and improve server stability. And Ubisoft is trying to reduce the size of the game overall.
Moving on to the masks, there are a number of eye-catching plans in the works. Ubisoft is working with Capcom to bring in an elite Resident Evil Jill Valentine skin for Zofia. Another Resident Evil skin is planned for the year.
And Ubisoft has teamed up with creative director Ikumi Nakamura for a series of skins, starting with Echo and Dokkaebi that will be released on March 2. Nakamura is known for her work on Shinji Mikami’s The Evil Within, as well as her memorable appearance at E3 2019.
