COVID-19 continues to hit Latin America

BUENOS AIRES

In Latin America, more infections and deaths from the new coronavirus were reported on Sunday.

Brazil

A total of 686 people lost their lives to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 181,123, according to the latest update from the Brazilian Ministry of Health.

The country also reported 43,900 new virus cases, with an overall count of around 6.88 million.

Sao Paulo stands out as the region most affected by the outbreak with more than 1.33 million cases and 43,971 deaths.

The country reported 5.96 million recoveries overall.

Mexico

The COVID-19 case count in Mexico increased by 12,057, with 685 deaths added to the death toll during the last day.

It has recorded around 1.24 million cases, 113,704 deaths, and 911,965 recoveries so far.

Argentina

A total of 5,274 COVID-19 cases have raised Argentina’s total count to 1.49 million, according to the Health Ministry.

The death toll nationwide rose to 40,668, as 62 patients died in the last day. About 1.33 million recoveries were also reported.

Colombia

Colombia registered 8,163 new cases and 197 deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the overall count to 1.4 million, including 38,866 deaths.

Recoveries reached 1.31 million, according to the Health Ministry.

Peru

Peru registered 2,102 new cases and 65 deaths during the last day, bringing the total count to 983,045, including 36,609 deaths.

Recoveries grew to 916,335, data from the Health Ministry showed.

Chile

Chile reported 1,807 more infections in the last 24 hours, bringing its total to 569,781.

Sixtu-four people died in the last day, bringing the death toll to 15,846, while recoveries rose to 543,083, the Health Ministry said.
