WASHINGTON – President-elect Joe Biden announced the newest members of his COVID-19 advisory board on Saturday. The board will help plan and implement procedures to help contain the coronavirus under its administration.
5-year-old Texas girl dies of COVID-19
The parents of a 5-year-old Texas girl are in mourning after their daughter tragically and unexpectedly died of COVID-19.
Recent hires included Jane Hopkins, nurse in England; Dr. Jill Jim, Executive Director of the Navajo Nation Health Department; and Dr. David Michaels, an epidemiologist at George Washington University.
“As COVID-19 emerges across the country, I need a team to advise me and a transition that offers diverse perspectives and points of view. Ms. Hopkins, Dr. Jim, and Dr. Michaels will strengthen the work of the board and help ensure that our COVID-19 planning addresses inequalities in health outcomes and the workforce, ”Biden said in a statement from press.

The board is chaired by Dr. David Kessler, Dr. Vivek Murthy, and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith.
This announcement comes as Biden has strongly signaled that fighting the terrible pandemic will be the immediate priority of his new administration, as the nation surpassed 13 million COVID-19 cases on Friday.

Biden’s announcement also came as the country got closer and closer to approving its first vaccine. The US Food and Drug Administration will hold a public hearing early next month on Pfizer and BioNTech’s experimental drug, which the companies say is 95% effective in preventing the virus. If the FDA approves the emergency use authorization, the companies said the first batches will be released in a few days.
