Almost a month after announcing the loss of her pregnancy, Chrissy Teigen spoke about the experience in a touching essay, which she shared on Medium on Tuesday, October 27. Teigen began her essay with gratitude for those who sent messages of sympathy to her and Legend in the wake of her loss. “I really didn’t know how this would start, no matter what room or state I was in, but it feels good to start with a thank you,” she wrote. “For weeks our floors have been covered in flowers of kindness. Notes have flooded and each one has been read with our own teary eyes. Social media messages from strangers have consumed my days, most starting with ‘probably not You’ll read this, but … ‘I can assure you I did. ”
Condolences began to pour in after Teigen and Legend’s September 30 announcement that they lost their baby (whom they named Jack), which came after he was admitted to the hospital with severe bleeding. In her Medium post, Teigen further detailed the health conditions and diagnoses that led to her eventual pregnancy loss, and talked about how they said goodbye to their son. “My mom, John and I hugged him and said our own private goodbyes, mom sobbing through Thai prayer,” he wrote. “I asked the nurses to show me their hands and feet and I kissed them over and over again.”
Teigen also explained why she decided to share her story and addressed the backlash she received for posting the candid photos, which revealed “deep pain that you only heard about.” “I can’t express how little it matters to me that you hate photos,” he wrote. “These photos are not for anyone other than people who have experienced this or are curious enough to wonder what something like this is like. These photos are only for people who need them. I don’t care about other people’s thoughts.” Fortunately, she has the support of her husband, who commented, “You amaze me. I love you.” Teigen’s famous friends also flooded their comments with notes of love and strength.
