OS updates can often suffer from unwanted crashes, and Apple’s latest iOS 14 and watchOS 7 versions seem not immune. In the last few days, there have been complaints that some people who have upgraded their devices have encountered, instead of greater efficiency, a wide range of problems, including missing fitness data, health apps refusing to open, inaccurate reports of stored data and increased battery consumption on iPhones and Apple Watches. But although Apple has published a way to solve some of these problems, it is not an easy solution.
When we checked Twitter, there were quite a few irritable messages from users whose batteries were draining too quickly. For example, one user tweeted: “The battery drain is incredible. 90 to 3 percent in an hour. “Most people don’t have a battery problem, but this shows the level of problems some are encountering.
Apple has already released a bug fix update (14.0.1), but none of these issues are part of that fix. Instead, Apple has suggested that if you are experiencing “two or more” of the listed problems, unpair your iPhone and Apple Watch, back up to iCloud, erase everything on your iPhone, and then restore your iPhone and Apple. Watch the backups. Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to restore missing training route maps, ambient sound levels, or any other missing data. Apple suggests that affected users follow its instructions “to avoid future data loss.”
Haven’t updated yet? You may want to wait a few more days for Apple, and other iPhone / Apple Watch users, to indicate that everything is clear.
