Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has denied the allegations of plans to extend the curfew from dusk to dawn by three hours to begin at 3 p.m. in Nairobi after media reports.
The apparent decision would be made due to the return to normal business operations in the city almost two months after the first Covid-19 case was recorded in Kenya.
Speaking to a local newspaper, Nairobi County Health CCA Hitan Majevdia said the curfew would be set at 3 p.m. in an attempt to reduce the spread of the virus.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Kagwe clarified the claims, noting that no talks had been held to advance the curfew.

“There is no one who can issue a directive regarding anything except the National Government, I have not spoken to him because the issuance of the signatures and everything comes from the Law of Public Order and that is what people should follow.”
“I have not heard any of that and the government has not discussed any of that, I do not know,” said Kagwe.
Majevdia was quoted as saying: “The government knows well that if the city closes before 3 p.m., very few people will go to the city … the curfew can also extend within the farms.”
On Wednesday May 6, the government moved to partially block Eastleigh and Old Town, Mombasa, following an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in the two areas.
When asked about the measures the government was normally planning in various parts of Nairobi, the CS of Health said this.
“The permanent political position is that we always watch and see the situation escalate or decline and then take action accordingly.
“We will look to see what is happening in the country and see if it is dangerous for the citizens and then we will take action accordingly, everything is done on the basis of a well thought-out strategy,” added Kagwe.
As of Saturday, May 9, the country had registered a total number of 649 cases, 207 recoveries and 30 deaths.
