2 in critical condition after Morena overpass accident in Coquitlam sends 4 to hospital

Four people were taken to hospital after an accident on the Brunette exit ramp of Highway 1 in Coquitlam, BC on Sunday morning.

BC Emergency Health Services says two of the four are in critical condition at the hospital.

The accident, which occurred just before 9 a.m. PT, closed traffic on both the exit ramps and the overpass in both directions, according to DriveBC.

A vehicle could be seen at the overturned intersection with the roof partially cut off. Emergency personnel treated another heavily damaged vehicle that was approximately 10 meters down a nearby embankment.

Emergency personnel from the BCEHS, Coquitlam Fire, Burnaby Fire, as well as Coquitlam RCMP units and the Port Mann Expressway Patrol responded to the call.

Investigators are on the scene working to determine the cause of the accident.
