Donald Trump Jr., the president’s son, appeared on Tuesday to compare the Speaker of the House of Representatives Conference with one of her father’s biggest opponents in the Republican Party.
His comments came amid news that House conservatives criticized President Liz Cheney, Republican of Wyo., For appearing to oppose President Trump on issues related to the coronavirus response.
“We already have a Mitt Romney, we don’t need another … we also don’t need the endless wars he advocates,” Trump Jr. said, referring to the Republican senator from Utah.
When asked for an answer, Cheney’s office told Fox News his comments at a press conference Tuesday. “Well, Donald Trump Jr. is not a member of the Republican House Conference,” Cheney said, smiling. He went on to tell reporters that he took his leadership position “very seriously” and said that, unlike Democrats, the Republican conference can have a “healthy exchange of views.”
Trump Jr. linked to a post by Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican, who accused Cheney of trying to cover up Trump. “Liz Cheney has worked behind the scenes (and now in public) against @realDonaldTrump and her agenda. House Republicans deserve better than our Conference Speaker. Liz Cheney should resign or be removed,” she said.
Romney famously voted to condemn President Trump during the Senate impeachment trial this year. That, along with a host of other criticisms, led him to conservatives, so much so that the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) announced that Romney “was NOT invited” to his event earlier this year.

Senator Rand Paul, R-Kentucky, a frequent critic of Cheney and his family, joined the criticism on Tuesday.
“We should all join @realDonaldTrump to advocate for stopping our endless wars. Liz Cheney not only wants to stay forever, but leads the fight to keep him from leaving. Unacceptable,” he said.
Although Trump had not responded via Twitter, he has vehemently attacked the Iraq war, led by his father, former Vice President Dick Cheney.
It’s unclear what behind-the-scenes actions Gaetz was referring to in his tweet. However, Liz Cheney has publicly defended and criticized Trump. According to FiveThirtyEight, she voted in line with Trump’s positions 97 percent of the time.
He also previously attacked the Democrats impeachment investigation, calling the effort a “sham” and a waste of time. However, in recent weeks, Liz Cheney criticized Trump’s attacks on MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, and seemed to affect the president’s position on the masks during the coronavirus pandemic.

He also recently asked the White House to explain amid concerns that it did not adequately respond to intelligence about alleged Russian rewards on the heads of US soldiers.
In his Twitter feed, he also features a tweet defending Dr. Anthony Fauci, the administration official who has been perceived as a detrimental influence on President Trump’s coronavirus messages.
“Dr. Fauci is one of the best public servants we have ever had,” he wrote. “He is not a supporter [sic]. Her only interest is saving lives. We need your experience and your judgment to beat this virus. All Americans should thank him. Every day.”
According to Politico, Liz Cheney responded to Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, after confronting her during a Republican conference meeting on Tuesday.
“I look forward to hearing your comments about being a team player when we return to the majority,” he said. Liz Cheney also disagreed with Jordan’s assessment of her recent behavior. After Tuesday’s meeting, she told reporters that the conference spoke about the threat posed by a Joe Biden presidency. She reportedly declined to answer questions, but said, “We are all unified.”

“We had an exchange of views, I think it is very clear that we are all united in the sense of recognizing the danger the country would face if Joe Biden were elected president; we talked extensively about Joe Biden, Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi and the guy of the United States where we would be living if they prevailed, “he said, according to NBC. Liz Cheney also reportedly shot Gaetz during their meeting, saying she expected to see him in a new HBO documentary titled “The Swamp”.
In June, Politico reported on the praise Liz Cheney had received from representatives Greg Walden, Republican of Oregon, and John Shimkus, Republican of Illinois. “She has values, she has guts and she says what she thinks. That resonates with a lot of people, “said Shimkus at the time.
