Guy ‘Dr Disrespect’ Beahm was kicked off Twitch more than three weeks ago and has been relatively silent on the subject ever since. In one of his first interviews since then, Beahm suggests that he is considering taking legal action against the company for the lack of communication around the ban. But there is no explanation as to why it was banned.
Beahm spoke to PC Gamer, where she quietly answered questions about the reasons for her ban amid possible future legal action. Beahm does not share why it was banned and declined to give a guess, but confirmed that he would not be returning to Twitch.
“Yes, that’s the mind-blowing type of all of this,” Beahm replied when asked why Twitch wouldn’t explain her ban to her. “Obviously, for legal advice, I have to be careful here. But I can say, though, that I’m not going back to Twitch, so I mean, that’s it.”
It is unclear in the interview why Beahm intends to sue Twitch, which could make his comments more postural than genuine.
Beahm was pressured if he thought that some recent events might have triggered the ban, including exchanging conspiracy theories around the COVID-19 and 5G networks. Beahm’s publicist did not allow Beahm to speculate about it, but instead claimed that Twitch had not formally reprimanded the transmitter prior to the ban.
Beahm also declined to speculate on whether his ban was related to recent stories of sexual harassment and assault within the gaming industry. He had been briefly suspended in the past for taking a camera to a public restroom while at E3. Your account was later reinstated.
The interview includes information on Beahm’s plans, including clues to a possible restart of Dr. Disrespect. He says he is not currently pursuing any exclusivity deals with other streaming platforms, especially amid Microsoft shutting down Mixer and offering streamers deals with Facebook Gaming. Beahm says, however, that there are still no firm dates on when it will return to the broadcast.
