DHSS reports the first death of COVID-19 in Delta YK; bringing the total to 21 deaths in Alaska residents


ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports a new death of COVID-19 and 98 new cases of COVID-19 among Alaska residents.

According to a Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation press release, YKHC saw its first hospitalization and evaluation of a COVID positive person. YKHC says they were aware of the positive case through tests conducted at Bethel. The person remained in self-isolation and was being monitored. The press release says the person’s condition worsened and then died due to COVID-19 related complications.

DHSS reports that 584 total nonresidents tested positive for COVID-19. The total count of resident cases is 2,622.

DHSS reports that the cases recovered are at 817, with 1,784 active cases. Additionally, there are 116 total hospitalizations, and to date, 21 Alaska residents have died with COVID-19 since March 2020.

The new case counts are outside the following areas of the state:

  • Kenai Peninsula District (4)
  • Juneau City and District (3)
  • Matanuska-Susitna Municipality (8)
  • Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area (1)
  • Northwest Arctic District (5)
  • Sitka City and District (2)
  • North Slope Borough (3)
  • Valdez-Córdoba Census Area (2)
  • Kudilvak Census Area (1)
  • Western Aleutian Census Area (1)
  • Yakutat plus Hoonah-Angoon (1)
