MISSOURI CITY, Texas – Missouri City officials sound the alarm after a coronavirus outbreak is reported in the Paradigm at First Colony.
There were 38 COVID-19 cases, 19 deaths and 24 infected staff at the nursing home, according to Fort Bend County.
“It really gets out of hand,” said Moises Moreno, who lives at the facility.
Moreno said his old roommate died last month.
Medicare.Gov rates gave the facility one star out of five for its overall rating and its rating of health inspections. Moreno said he is not surprised and sometimes it takes workers up to three hours to respond to his call button.
“I started thinking about how something like a real emergency happened, the person in need of help who might have died,” Moreno said.
“The high death toll in nursing homes is a cause for concern everywhere. I do not think there is enough information at this time to say that this nursing home has done anything particularly wrong to prevent these 19 people,” said lawyer Charles Brown.
Brown went on to say that the investigation by Texas Health and Human Services will show if the nursing home follows rules and regulations. At that point, indebtedness could be an issue.
