COVID-19 kills two more as Santa Barbara County raises its case to 16K +


The Santa Barbara County Department of Public Health announced Saturday that two additional members of the community have died from COVID-19, bringing the county’s death toll to 153.

According to the health department, the two men were in their late 70s and were in poor health, one of whom was involved in an outbreak at a gathering facility.

County health officials also said the victims lived in unorganized areas of Santa Barbara City and Mission Canyon, as well as communities in the cities of Lompok and Mission Hills and Wendenberg Village.

Health officials in Santa Barbara County have reported 426 new cases of the virus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 16,083 as of Saturday afternoon.

The Department of Public Health said 14,766 people have recovered from the virus so far, including community members and inmates locked in the county jail. Officials said 26 patients are recovering in the intensive care unit.

  • Guadalupe and North County Unorganized Areas (Siskok, Casmalia, Gere, Kuama, New Kuama) – 654
  • Isla Vista – 649
  • Goletta – 671
  • Incompatible Goletta Valley and Gavita – 484
  • Carpenteria and Southern County Unorganized Areas (Montetto, Summerland) – 453
  • Santa Yenez Valley (Solwang, Bualton, Santa Yenez, Los Alamos, Los Olivos, Ballard) – 386

An additional 726 cases have been listed as “pending”.

County health officials said 835 health care workers in the county tested positive for COVD-19.
