Coronavirus CT: infection rate, hospitalization climbing


Connecticut – The state’s coronavirus infection rate has taken a sharp turn in the wrong direction this week, according to the latest data from the Department of Public Health.

The infection rate reached 3 percent behind 434 new cases in the last 24 hours. An additional 14,653 people were tested, bringing the state to a total of 2,051,670.

The death toll from COVID-19 also rose to five. There have been 64,455 cases and 4,559 deaths in the state since the outbreak began.

217 people are currently hospitalized due to coronavirus, 22 more in the last day.

The group with the highest number of cases is the residents of the 50s with 10,194. The elderly are the most susceptible to this disease. There have been 2,721 deaths among people aged 80 and over.

Ned Lamont of the government said Tuesday that the state has not been infected since early June. He said there has been a recent increase in infection rates in the country as well as in neighboring states.

“We have to be disciplined for a while,” Lamont said.
