This Friday, in the middle of the third day of demonstrations caused by the case of police abuse that led to the death of Javier Ordóñez, President Iván Duque referred to the cases of police abuse and the public order situation that has taken place in the last days.

The president pointed out that “the Public Force cannot allow any abuse” and that its policy is “zero tolerance for any act that dishonors the uniform.”

The president indicated that he spoke with some of the relatives of civilians and members of the Public Force who have died in the acts of violence, which occurred between Wednesday and Friday, and that they will work to clarify the facts and that those responsible “have an exemplary sanction.” .

“We know that there are families who have experienced intense pain in recent days, but from the heart we tell them that we are going to accompany them,” he said.

The President assured that the Government knows that there is indignation, but he made a harsh rejection of the acts of vandalism, which, he assured, are “systematic.” “It is painful to see these acts of vandalism and violence,” he emphasized.

“Here we have also seen vandalism, systematic, structural, organized to affect not only facilities of the national police that serve the citizens but also attacks by our force,” he warned.

Among the actions that have been taken in the Ordóñez case, he warned, is the dismissal of two uniformed men, and five suspended.

Likewise, the Head of State indicated that the “heroic” acts carried out by the Public Force throughout history must be recognized.

“The Public Force in our country has historically won the affection and heart of the Colombian people and for that very reason we have to advance promptly in these investigations,” said Duque.

Likewise, the message that Duque gave is that more violence cannot be allowed.

“We saw the painful situation that happened to Javier Ordóñez. We know that this phenomenon has caused deep indignation, but we have also seen a gallant and fast attitude on the part of our police institution, “he said.. “We have to be able to individualize these behaviors,” he added.
