The Colombian singer Shakira had a pleasant conversation with Prince William, grandson of Elizabeth II, after she was selected as jury of an important recognition.

Precisely, the Barranquillera will be part of the global list of influencers that will deliver the Earthshot Award, an initiative that seeks to encourage projects related to the recovery of the environment.

Shakira published on her official YouTube account the conversation she had with the heir to the British crown, in which she presented her reflections, but incidentally invited him to visit Colombia.

«You have to come to Colombia with me, I will show you my country, it is very beautiful, with great environmental diversity», the Colombian artist began by telling the Duke of Cambridge.

Later, the interpreter of songs like “Waka Waka” told Prince William that Colombia has «Amazing people, with friendly, welcoming people. They are very talented, there is talent everywhere.

Later, Shakira explained to the heir to the British crown that there is a lot of work to be done in Colombia, which is why she has focused exclusively on Education projects.

“I believe that education is the way to a more evolved society,” argued the singer about the change that humanity must make to reverse the damage to the planet.

«My children, your children, will have to find ways to reduce CO2 emissions, repair the oceans, clean the air. We need informed and conscientious minds “, was another of the reflections of the Colombian.

What is the award?

This Thursday, the environmental award was launched that seeks to change “pessimism for optimism”, rewarding innovative solutions to the planet’s problems, starting with the climate crisis.

The Earthshot Prize will award each year five million pound prizes ($ 1.3 million or € 1.1 million) to incentivize change and help repair our planet in the next ten years.

The first five awards will be presented in 2021 in London, in a ceremony that will change cities each year.

In addition to 38-year-old Prince William, the jury will be made up of personalities such as Shakira, soccer player Dani Alves, former UN climate officer Christina Figueres, actress Cate Blanchett, among others.

According to the experts, we are really at the point of no return. We have ten years to fundamentally fix our planet », the prince warned in an interview with BBC Radio 4.

In addition, the award will aim to find at least 50 solutions to the most important challenges facing the world from now until 2030.

The award also aspires to become the Nobel Prize for the Environment, rewarding both individuals (activists, scientists, economists) as well as companies, organizations, governments, cities and even countries.

The idea is to encourage the creation of “viable solutions” to the climate crisis, which improve “living conditions throughout the world, especially in the communities most exposed to climate change.”
