As of December 1, the Decree 1550 whose function is to extend restrictions during the holiday season, in order to avoid the increase in cases of coronavirus in Colombia.

The most relevant of the provisions of the Decree is the prohibition of opening for nightclubs and bars, as well as operational restrictions on events that involve crowding of people.

According to the Vice Minister of Political Relations of the Ministry of the Interior, Daniel Palacios, the provisions are ‘simple’ and are intended to expand the “Selective isolation, social distancing and self-care”.

For discos and bars the restriction will go up to January 16, coinciding with the closure of maritime and land borders in the country.

Palacios’ statements were collected from the presidential program Prevention and Action, where the president gives a statement of the progress of the pandemic in Colombian territory.

However, this restriction does not imply that those establishments that already had operational authorization can maintain their activity, as long as they avoid crowds or consumption of liquor in public spaces: “Public, private or social events that involve crowds and the consumption of intoxicating beverages in public spaces. The vice minister recalled that local administrations can carry out piloting with the owners of these establishments as long as they do not affect the general spirit of the Decree, namely: reduce the number of coronavirus infections in the country.
