Envigado and Junior de Barranquilla met at the Polideportivo Sur to define one of the qualifiers for the quarterfinals of the BetPlay Cup. In the definition of a single game, each team had to give everything and in the end, with a round of penalties, it was the visitors who were left with the victory and the passage to the next round of the championship.
The Junior began winning after a foul in the area by Joan Parra against Michael Rangel that the referee whistled as a launch from the penalty spot. The forward charged and although goalkeeper Parra guessed the side of the shot, he ended up at the back of the net.
After the goal, Junior wanted to have the ball and gave some advantages in defense. Amaranto Perea’s team could not handle the result and only four minutes after Rangel’s goal, the locals got the tie after a header from Noreña that came with controversy.
Envigado took advantage of the ball still and although goalkeeper Sebastián Viera took the ball, it had already entered the goal and was a goal of those led by José Arastey, which did not stop. The locals had the ball, they despaired Junior taking advantage of the spaces that the rival gave them and they got the second.
At minute 48, Guzmán took advantage of a rebound to make a launch that entered through the angle of the goal defended by Viera. With the celebration of the oranges the first half ended.
Second half: comeback, classification and Viera figure
In the second half, Junior de Barranquilla achieved the comeback and the classification. The rojiblanco team leveled thanks to a masterful free kick by Sebastián Viera that did not enter, but hit the post and Angulo took advantage of the rebound to beat the local goalkeeper.
Junior improved and neutralized Envigado’s midfield that had given him bad times in the first 45 minutes and at minute 77, he got the partial winning goal. With the complicity of the goalkeeper, Larry Vásquez finished from medium distance and scored the third.
Junior dominated the match, but at the end of the match, as happened in the first half, Envigado tied. Santiago Muñoz took it from the air on the edge of the area, finished off and Viera could do nothing to prevent it. With this result came the penalties.
In the pitches, Neyder Moreno finished for Envigado, but Viera saved. Francisco Báez also wasted for the locals. Sandoval lost it to Junior, but the rest of his teammates scored and that is why the Barranquilla team achieved qualification.
With this result, Perea’s men qualified for the quarterfinals and They await their rival for the key between Pereira and Deportivo Independiente Medellín who will play this Thursday at 3:00 pm
