The police operation that allowed this Saturday to locate and kill Venezuelan boss Bernardino Meleán Frontado, alias ‘Willy Meleán’, continues to throw surprises.

EL TIEMPO established that the leader of the criminal gang of ‘Los Meleán’ had an original Colombian identity card, which used to move through different departments and pass the checkpoints without problem, despite having three red Interpol circulars for homicide, extortion and aggravated theft.

Willy Meleán confronted the Police and was killed along with his henchman.

But the surprise was greater when the agents of the Sijín (of the Metropolitan Police of Bogotá, under the command of General Óscar Gómez Heredia) and the Sipol that carried out the operation -in the rural area of ​​Sabana de Torres, Santander- discovered that the lover of ‘Willy Meleán’ also had an original Colombian ID.

“They were completed in Galapa (Atlantic) and had consecutive numbers”one of the researchers told EL TIEMPO.

EL TIEMPO investigated the issue and established that the Venezuelan capo, whose criminal gang had been operating in Colombia since 2018, processed the document that same year.

Willy Meleán and his gang had short and long-range weapons seized.

He appeared at the Registrar’s office in Galapa (Atlántico) and said he was Barranquillero, with a birth date of August 26, 1983.

From all the information he gave, the only certainty is his blood type: O +.

After paying a large sum, he managed to have the document issued to him on April 3, 2018. And he managed to do the same with one of his lovers who, from that year on, was called Iranitza Elizabeth Reyez Granadillo.

The woman is only 22 years old and was one of the three lovers that the capo had in Colombia.

Registrar takes action

Another key point to find his whereabouts were his service employees. They are in charge of bringing you designer clothes, personal belongings and cell phones in luxurious suitcases.

EL TIEMPO established that the National Registry, headed by Álex Vega; Interpol and the Prosecutor’s Office have already begun to take substantive measures on this phenomenon that this newspaper has been denouncing for more than two years.

Willy Melean was monitored electronically, his main telephone subscribers, to detect his movements in Bucaramanga and Bogotá.

20 of their main contacts were collected more than 500 hours of information to learn about the routines of the head of ‘Los Melean’. In the same way, more than 137 activities of taking photographs were carried out, allowing them to make a map of their transfers in the Santander capital.

Once their routines were established, investigators from Sipol, from the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, began surveillance under the guise of a milk merchant to determine the arrival, last weekend, of Melean and his men.

Willy Meleán and his hitmen were hiding in a luxurious hacienda in Santander.

He was in charge of giving the green light to the arrival of the Special Police Commands, by land and by air.

The special commandos were met with fire by the entire security scheme of the Venezuelan criminal when they realized that one of the farm employees had seen strange movements.
