Hernández was charged with the crimes of aggravated homicide, attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons for his participation in the shooting on Wednesday, March 10, in the north of Bogotá.
Due to the events surrounding the shooting that occurred this Wednesday, March 10, in the north of Bogotá, and in the middle of which the 24-year-old patrolman Edwin Caro died, the Prosecutor’s Office imputed the charges of aggravated homicide, attempted murder and illegal possession of weapons to Wilkerson Hernández, who was caught in flagrante delicto, but did not accept charges.

At the hearing, which began around 6:30 pm this Thursday, the Prosecutor’s Office pointed out that there is evidence (interviews and videos) that indicate that Hernández was the person who shot the patrolman Edwin Caro. They also indicate that the man ran away, trying to flee from the police, but that in the end he was captured.
“There is an eyewitness who recognized the person (Wilkerson Hernández) who today is before his honor, as the one who shot the patrolman Edwin Caro against humanity,” said the delegate of the Public Ministry. In addition, it was highlighted that after Hernández was captured, he was injured as a result of the attacks committed against him by citizens who were in the place at that time.

However, Hernández indicated that it was not he who fired the weapon but the other subject who accompanied him and that so far he has not been identified. He also said that they were on the motorcycle together because he was going to take him home. For his part, the defendant’s defender assured that his client was attacked by the uniformed men who captured him, for which he asked to declare the capture illegal. However, this request was not accepted by the judge.
“There is a Legal Medicine report that indicates that this person has some injuries, but as the agents have stated, he was attacked by the community. The State cannot answer for the citizenry, who are tired of the criminal acts that are committed on a daily basis and even more so a serious act like this. He signed a certificate that he received good treatment from the police. So that request does not have any prosperity “said the judge.

The Prosecutor’s Office also indicated that the uniformed José David Carvajalino, who was accompanying Caro on the patrol, has injuries as a result of the friction of the shots. On the other hand, he indicated that the capture was carried out by agent Jhonatan Andrés Baquero, who is part of a security scheme and that, according to his testimony, he tried to protect Hernández from the blows of the citizens.
After considering the arguments, Hernández’s capture was legalized. Subsequently, the Prosecutor’s Office charged him with aggravated homicide (for the murder of the patrolman Edwin Caro), aggravated homicide in the form of an attempt (this because the patrolman José David Carvajalino, who accompanied Caro, was also injured) and illegal carriage of weapons. Likewise, it was defined that the hearing will continue this Friday at 2:00 pm
