A great man from the Bolívar sports leadership left, Wilfredo Eljach Uribe, who was a futsalon standard-bearer for the last 30 years, left for heaven.

A respiratory arrest stopped his heart in the morning. He was 54 years old.

Bolívar’s futsalón and the sports family in general are in mourning, as someone who always fought for athletes to receive a better treatment and have the necessary tools to achieve their ideals left.

He had the honor of officiating as president in the only title that Bolívar’s futsalón has won in a National Games. The conquest was in 2012 in Popayán. Gledys Bello, María Meriño, Sandrá Narváez, Yurica Mármol, Luz Leidis López, Diana Jiménez, Gina Caraballo, María Viloria, Tatiana Navarro and Loadis Ortega were part of this group.

After so many years of work, Eljach could not leave this world without a spectacular achievement. That conquest was registered as the first and only one to date with a sport that the people of Cartagena carry in their hearts. He with his wise way of planning and managing led them to glory.

None of the girls wanted to party with Wicho, as he was affectionately known. Yurica Mármol, captain of the Bolívar team that won the title, affirms that: “He was everything to the group, he fought for us to be well, he always cared about our well-being”.

Eljach was the founder of Las Mulatas Caribeñas, which for more than five seasons has participated in the semi-professional futsalón.

In his career as a manager he helped develop the talent of great futsalón de Bolívar such as Ever Taborda, Eder Torres, Douglas Padilla, Erick Herrera, Juan Carlos Jiménez, Daniel Barrios and the great Álvaro Chico.

“My dad left, the one who when I didn’t have to survive took money out of his pocket to help me, the person who always advised me to take the best path,” said Chico.

As an athlete he was a great goalkeeper. Bolívar was part of several teams in this sport. He always carried futsalon in his veins.

He worked in the advertising department of El Universal for more than 25 years.
