Is it a criminal gang?
The Secretary of Security, Hugo Acero, in an interview with EL TIEMPO, said that they are investigating whether there are people close to the two criminals, to establish if they are a criminal gang.
Initially, the Police took on the first case, then the Prosecutor’s Office appeared and took on an investigation of two people implicated in the murder. Then they continue with the evaluation of the facts to find out if there are people close to these criminals.
Later, Mayor Claudia López confirmed that they are Venezuelan citizens, but warned that they are a minority. In addition, he called for work against them.
The head of the Bogotá Security Secretariat explained that in 2018 about 2,800 Venezuelans were arrested committing crimes. “In 2019, the figure rose to 4,800. In 2020, the figure approached 4,000 people of foreign origin, particularly Venezuelans,” he said.
Acero added: “It must be recognized that the vast majority of migrants, especially Venezuelans, are people trying to survive. Unfortunately there are a few dedicated to criminal activities.”
