CITY TV also learned in the last hours the testimony of the other patrol car that accompanied Caro when everything happened. “I was patrolling with Caro and we saw two men on a motorcycle, they were riding a (…) black one with a Rappi suitcase and we sided with them. We searched him and everything was normal, I searched Rappi’s bag, everything was normal, and they have a little pocket on the back, “said the agent.

There, in that pocket, the men carried two firearms. When discovered, they attacked them. “They took out my pistols and started shooting us,” says the agent.

In the middle of that, Caro was mortally wounded, one of the criminals also died and the other, wounded, tried to flee.

Caro’s partner followed him. Also added to the persecution was a patrol car attached to the protection scheme of the High Counselor for Human Rights, Nancy Patricia Gutiérrez, who was in the area. Finally, they found the accused criminal, identified as Wilkerson Slyke Hernandez.

There is no identification of the dead criminal so far.

A new tribute

The Metropolitan Police of Bogotá woke up in mourning. At 6 am this Thursday, another tribute to Edwin Caro Gómez began.

In Carrera 7 with Calle 79, the point where Caro was mortally wounded, today a tribute was mounted with floral crowns, photos and work objects of the uniformed man.

Oscar Herrera, the victim’s brother, was present at the tribute. “One asks for justice. I just want to give strength to my little mother, who is in the house, longing for her son to return one day“, lamented Herrera who, in fact, has been part of the National Army for 15 years.

Also present was the patrol car who was with Caro in the procedure that resulted in tragedy. “I am still in my institution and we are going to continue fighting as much as possible,” he managed to articulate in uniform before breaking down.

Also in the place is the commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, General Óscar Gómez Heredia, who assured that “we are going to continue with the investigations. We want to establish whether these criminals were part of a larger structure.”
