In the trial for bribery of witnesses and procedural fraud against the former lawyer of former President Álvaro Uribe, Diego Javier Cadena Ramírez, in addition to numerous documentary evidence, the testimonies of 14 people who were called to testify will be taken into account.

In this case, the Prosecutor’s Office indicates that Cadena, together with the lawyer Juan José Salazar -who is also prosecuted for the facts- approached two of the witnesses in a process that the Supreme Court was following against Uribe and offered them benefits as money and legal advice, in exchange for declaring that Senator Iván Cepeda had made offers to incriminate the former president.

Those two witnesses were Carlos Enrique Vélez and Juan Guillemo Monsalve, both convicted former paramilitaries.

Among the witnesses that the Prosecutor’s Office listed in their indictment against Cadena and Salazar are three investigators from the Prosecutor’s Office who were part of the evidence gathering process.

There is also María Helena Vélez Ramírez, sister and foster mother of Carlos Enrique Vélez, to whom, according to the Prosecutor’s Office, the lawyers would have given more than 6 million pesos as part of the payment that he would be making to this witness Cadena.

Likewise, the son of former paramilitary Vélez appears referenced as a witness, to whom they would have consigned 10 million pesos in a savings account, also as part of the bribe to his father.

Ricardo Diosa Londoño, a cousin of Vélez who would have received another 10 million pesos in cash, is also called to testify.

The ex-paramilitary’s nephew, Jose Fernando Ocampo Vélez, to whom the lawyers would have paid 18 million pesos, was summoned to the trial.

Of course, the Prosecutor’s Office also asked to hear Carlos Enrique Vélez, a prisoner in the Palmira prison, and whom the lawyers allegedly asked him to change his version in favor of Uribe in the investigations into the El Aro massacre; and Juan Guillermo Monsalve, who is in La Picota and has been a witness against the former president and his brother Santiago Uribe in processes that link his family with the creation of paramilitary groups in Antioquia.

Another of the called witnesses is Fabian Arturo Rojas Puerta, former adviser of the UTL de Uribe in the Senate, and to whom the Chamber of Investigation of the Supreme Court had already managed to hear, within the case with the filing 52240 against Álvaro Uribe.

According to the indictment, Rojas would have been an intermediary between Cadena and Uribe’s other lawyers, Jaime Lombana and Jaime Granados, who were the accredited in the former president’s process before the Supreme Court of Justice. De Cadena, the former UTL advisor would have received documents that he later handed over to the other lawyers for them to present to the Court.

Likewise, Rodolfo Echeverry is called, messenger or driver from Diego Cadena’s office and through whom some of the payments were made to relatives of former paramilitary Vélez.

Deyanira Gómez Sarmiento, wife of former paramilitary Juan Guillermo Monsalve is another of the witnesses that the accusing body asks to hear.

The testimony of Elmo José Mármol Torregoza, alias el Poli, another former paramilitary who sent a document, was also requested. to the Supreme Court saying that Senator Iván Cepeda had wanted to manipulate his testimony. Mármol would also have been contacted by Cadena.

Finally, Hector Romero, Juan Guillermo Monsalve’s lawyer, who was present at meetings between Cadena and his client in prison, was asked to hear in court.
