Avianca Holdings’ intention to avail itself of the Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code, will have no impact on the accumulated miles by users, among other reasons because the LifeMiles company, which administers the program, is not part of the company’s reorganization request.
Avianca Holdings noted that the adjustments defined on April 17 to mitigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, and the inability to travel, remain the same, for the benefit of its partners.
Further, customers will continue to earn miles when they fly with the airline, and they will be able to continue redeeming the accumulated miles through LifeMiles to buy tickets with Avianca during this process. It may interest you: These are the five largest creditors of Avianca Holdings

-
Validity of Elite Status: All members who earned Elite status on March 1, 2020 will have their status extended until January 31, 2022. The term will automatically extend on March 1, 2021, with no need for customers to contact with the airline.
-
Elite qualification requirements in 2020: LifeMiles’ rating system (miles, segments and dollars) will be reduced soon. The enabler of miles flown with Avianca remains at 60%.
-
Flexibility for changes to tickets redeemed with miles: All changes to tickets purchased with miles are exempt from penalty. Customers may request changes, through the call center or LiveChat, until December 31, 2020 with a maximum flight date until June 30, 2021.
-
Mileage expiration: The expiration of those miles that expired between April 1 and December 31, 2020 will be paused. This will be done automatically, without the need for customers to contact the airline.
