According to the map prepared by the Johns Hopkins University (USA) that records data on coronavirus cases worldwide, Colombia surpassed South Africa and came to occupy the sixth position in the list of countries with the most reported infections.

The figures show in the most recent update that in our country there are 633,339 cases, 324 above the African country that registers 633,015 and 23,700 below Peru, a country that is located in fifth place in the table with 657,129 infections.
The five countries that lead the list of global infections (26,140,922) exceed one million cases, with the exception of Colombia and Peru. In the United States, for example, 6,137,974 infections are reported; Brazil has 3,997,865; India registers 3,853,406 and Russia, which recently announced its vaccine to combat covid-19, remains in fourth position with 1,006,923 cases.

Regarding the number of deaths, the table varies when compared with the data on infections. Although the United States, Brazil and India remain in the first three places of both measurements in that order, Mexico moves to fourth place with 65,816 deaths; the United Kingdom is in fifth place with 41,615 and Italy is in sixth place with 35,507.
Colombia is in the eleventh position registering 20,348 deaths from covid-19. This data was known hours before the Ministry of Health delivered its daily report on Thursday.
The report reported 270 deaths, 9,583 more recovered and 8,235 new cases. With these figures, the country reaches a total of 641,574 infections (which continues to place it in the sixth position worldwide in the table of the American University), 20,618 deaths and 489,151 recovered.

If the contagion figures reported by the Johns Hopkins University Center for Science and Systems Engineering are analyzed, it is evident that the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic continues to be America, since of the ten countries that lead the list, six belong to the continent. Mexico and Argentina are in the eighth and tenth position, respectively.
