The Veteran’s Law grants members of the Public Force benefits and concrete advantages in matters of health, credit, housing, training, access to cultural events, transportation and preferential attention in procedures and procedures, President Iván Duque stressed this Saturday, in the first celebration of National Veteran’s Day.

The president led the act carried out in the House of Nariño on the occasion of the day established in Law 1979 of 2019, and recalled that he promoted the approval of said norm so that a tribute would be paid to the servers of the Public Force, but gratitude will also be expressed with access to goods and services, training opportunities, home purchase and discounts in partnership with the private sector.

During the tribute, the Head of State signed two decrees that regulate the Veteran’s Law.

“But I also want to highlight practical things. The discounts for access to urban transport that emanate from these decrees and that will be materialized in the coordinated work with governors and mayors ”, he specified.

And secondly, “comprehensive care for those who have had serious consequences and health problems, with the support one hundred percent from the State.”

“Third, free entry for veterans to all museums in Colombia, so that access to culture is fully democratized and, furthermore, following the guidelines of other nations,” added President Duque.

He also stressed that it is expected with mayors and governors “a minimum of free access to cultural and public events for veterans” and have the privileged window for veterans in all state services.

In terms of air transportation, veterans will have the privilege of boarding and exemption from the airport tax.

Regarding education, access to education training programs will be applied to the veteran, or to one of his children, and the National Service of Learning (SENA) will receive them in priority conditions.

Likewise, they will benefit from financing and support for entrepreneurship services with iNNpulsa and the Emprender Fund.

Likewise, veterans will have access to housing programs with subsidies from the Nation and concurrent subsidy schemes with compensation funds.

Regarding housing, the Honor Fund will be strengthened, which will have financial support through a specialized fund to progressively capitalize it.

There will also be the facility of importing vehicles for veterans who have had health and physical mobility impairments, and who are left with disabilities.

“And, of course, it should also be noted that with private trade and in the development of this decree the agreements on goods and services to have the outstanding discount for those who are our veterans,” added the president.

Increase in disability pension

On the other hand, the Head of State announced that an administrative decision was made to increase the disability pension to those who have been affected in a significant proportion.

“And all this will materialize through a figure that we have also created with this decree, the Intersectoral Commission for Veteran Care, where will be all the ministries and all the entities involved in these benefits so that they are executed with the greatest speed and that they are also permanently identifying new opportunities ”, he specified.

Meanwhile, there will be a Veterans Council, “where the representatives of those who have worn the uniform will be present, so that public policy in their care will be better, more dignified and, hey, more recognized by the Colombian people.”

“These measures occur because we have the political will to recognize and appreciate the work of our heroes,” concluded the President of the Republic.
