What are Trump’s reasons for starting the handover now?
The outgoing president argued through a tweet that “in the common interest of his country,” he recommended Emily Murphy, head of the General Services Administration and his team to do what they had to do with respect to the initial protocols.
Trump also claimed that Murphy had been the victim of threats and different attacks due to his reluctance to begin the process of handover.
“I want to thank Emily Murphy at GSA (the General Services Administration) for her steadfast dedication and loyalty to our country. She has been harassed, threatened and abused – and I don’t want to see this happen to her, her family or GSA employees. “Trump tweeted.
The announcement of the still president also came shortly after Murphy certified Biden’s victory, a necessary step so that Democrats can access key resources to carry out the transition to government.
So … what was the response from Emily Murphy, head of the GSA?
Emily Murphy, who denied acting under political pressure, has refused since November 3 to release the aid package her agency handles for Biden’s team.
According to CNN, Murphy, Trump’s politician appointee, has faced intense scrutiny and political pressure from Democrats and, in recent days, from Republicans calling for the start of a smooth transition.
And … how did President-elect Joe Biden’s team react?
US President-elect Joe Biden on Monday welcomed the release of government aid for his transition team, a step he described as crucial towards “a peaceful transfer of power.”
The head of the General Administration of Services “has confirmed President-elect Joe Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris as the apparent winners of the elections, providing the incoming administration with the resources and support necessary to carry out a smooth and peaceful transfer of power“Biden said in a statement.
The transition team of the president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, announced this Monday that in “the next few days” it will begin meetings with officials of the Government of Donald Trump to make effective the transfer of power to which the outgoing president has just given approval.
“In the coming days, transition officials will begin meeting with federal officials to discuss the response to the pandemic, have detailed information on our national security interests.“Biden Transition Team Executive Director Yohannes Abraham said in a statement.
The Democratic official also assured that in those meetings they will seek “to obtain a full understanding of the efforts of the Trump Administration to empty government agencies.”
Does this mean that Trump conceded the victory to Biden?
The outgoing president refused to concede victory to his rival and affirmed through Twitter that: “Our case continues with STRENGTH, we are going to continue to have a good fight and I think we are going to win!”
I want to thank Emily Murphy of GSA for her steadfast dedication and loyalty to our country. She has been harassed, threatened, and abused, and I don’t want this to happen to her, her family, or GSA employees. Our case continues STRONG, we will continue with the good …
