What can be done to celebrate Halloween in Colombia?

This Thursday, during his speech in the Government’s ‘Prevention and Action’ program, the official explained the general recommendations for next Halloween celebration in the country.

Ruiz pointed out that in a joint effort with several entities an agreement was reached to provide guidance to local leaders, and that they can make their decisions based on that information:

“Today we issued with the Ministry of the Interior, the Presidential Council for Children and Adolescents and the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare a joint circular of orientation to mayors and governors about the children’s party or Halloween.”

Ruiz Gómez recalled that there are many risks on that date, including count: crowds, difficulty with physical distancing, exchange of objects that they may have the virus on their surface (bags, candy, costumes, masks, make-up) and that all these interactions pose a great risk to older adults.

Recommendations of the Ministry of Health for the celebration of Halloween in Colombia:

Celebrate Halloween at home with your immediate family resident in the home.
– Avoid intergenerational contact.
Do not make rounds around the houses to ask for sweets.
– Maintain physical distancing at all times.
– Cover your mouth with your elbow flexed or with a tissue when coughing.
– Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Staying home if you have a fever or trouble breathing.
– Constantly wash your hands.
– Use the mask if you are away from the place of residence.

In that sense, he stressed that what will be allowed next Saturday, October 31, is framed in a generality: stay home to celebrate.

“The recreation that occurs on Halloween is essential for the mental health of children and therefore is very important. But a different Halloween, like the one we have in this pandemic environment, is not necessarily a less happy Halloween. We have to adapt and take advantage of the measures we recommend to work in our families, ”Ruiz pointed out.

Regarding the mayors and governorships, the minister indicated that they should carry out campaigns to avoid social gatherings in halls of closed complexes, public places or shopping centers and traditional neighborhood tours, as well as promoting celebrations at home without guests.

In the last hours, the mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, warned that her administration ruled out the curfew but that this does not imply total freedom of movement to celebrate, because the capital has already exceeded 300,000 cases of contagion.

In this sense, the head of the Health portfolio reiterated that commercial centers or establishments must continue with the measures established in Resolutions 666 and 749. At the same time, they will have the responsibility of creating massive and clear campaigns for people to adopt a appropriate behavior, from the point of view of the prevention of COVID-19 within the framework of the celebration.

Government announcements are given just when Colombia reached 990,270 confirmed coronavirus patients and 29,636 deceased. So far 90% of those infected have recovered: 893,712 people.
