The vice minister of health, Luis Alexander Moscoso reported that the occupation of the ICU in cities such as Santa Marta and Medellín increased in the last weeks. The arrival of Holy Week and holidays represents a risk for the increase in infections in the country.
The Ministry of Health reiterated that, although the immunization days are already being carried out in the country, the guard against the coronavirus should not yet be lowered. An announcement that, according to Vice Minister Luis Alexander Moscoso, during the ‘Prevention and Action’ program, would not only be a reminder, since the cases in some parts of Colombia have already begun to rise.
The increase in infections, as has happened in the past, could predict what some call the third peak of the pandemic and more at a time when large mobilizations are expected throughout the national territory due to the arrival of Holy Week.

“We are concerned about the increase in cases in the country. Today we have a slight increase in the general occupancy of Intensive Care Units. This is a call because it is not a time to relax and forget about preventative security measures. It is a time to apply them strongly to avoid having the beginning of a contagion curve again”Said Deputy Minister Moscoso.
As explained by the official, places like Santa Marta are already in the middle of a peak of cases generated since February. A situation that increased the occupation of Intensive Care Units at 90%. Medellín was another of the cities that Moscoso referred to, due to an increase in infections, with an ICU occupancy of 71%.
The Deputy Minister of Health clarified that the other cities are not exempt from danger. “The same thing can happen in any city if we relax, be very careful in the cities of Ciénaga, the department of Magdalena, La Guajira and the Atlántico. This is not the time to relax, Easter comes and moments of risk“Moscoso added.
