Bennett (Deceunink) prevailed from the start in a massive arrival, but the review of the videos by the judges, led to his disqualification for a push to separate Emils Liepins (Trek Segafredo) as he was preparing to contest the sprint.
The Irishman, who had already won the fourth stage of the Spanish round, thus remains without a double, while the German cyclist of the Bora, achieves his first victory in a Tour of Spain.
“When I saw the video I saw that it was not a fair action by Bennett. If there is no space to sprint we have to stop,” he said. Ackermann, 26 years old.
The Belgian Gerben Thijssen (Lotto), who had been third, moved to second place, and his place was occupied by the German Max Kanter (Sunweb).
The stage, the first of the two transitional stages before tackling the tough slopes of the Asturian mountains, in northern Spain, was decided on a massive arrival after 157.7 km, which had started from the town of Castrillo del Val.
The race was marked this Thursday by the long escape of the Spanish Aritz Bagües (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Juan Felipe Osorio (Burgos-BH), canceled 22 km from the finish.
