This Monday a tribute was held to Dilan Cruz, the young man who died last year after an Esmad agent shot him with a 12-gauge shotgun. Throughout the day, commemorative activities were held on Calle 19 with Carrera 4 , where the student fell, mortally wounded, on November 23, 2019.
Although the mayor Claudia López was not expected to appear at the exact point of the meeting, at night the president surprised those who gathered at that point in the capital.

López reported, via Twitter, that Denis Cruz and Yenny Alejandra Medina -sister and mother of the young man- were in the Mayor’s Office of Bogotá, previously, to express their desire for truth and justice in the murder of their loved one. She also reported that they invited her to the “event in which they paid memory” to Dilan Cruz.
Dilan’s mother expressed her gratitude to the mayor, ensuring that her presence joined that of hundreds of residents of the capital who, in a good act of memory, accompanied the family on the first anniversary of the young man’s death.
However, minutes after the mayor heard the words of Mrs. Medina, videos were released in which López is seen leaving the place escorted by coexistence managers. Some attendees began to shout phrases against the president and the public force. “Get out!”, “Assassins”, “Who gave the order?”, Are the boos that are heard in the recordings.

The Cruz family reproached the actions of some protesters for tarnishing the peaceful evening that had taken place so far.
🚨 With boos they dismissed Claudia López from the tribute to Dilan Cruz. Dilan’s family invited the mayor to the event and thanked her for her gesture. Other attendees were upset and reproached López’s attendance. More details here 👉 https://t.co/KkvJc2ErUm pic.twitter.com/7RtOd8g5Sq

After the fact, the president trilled that “the anger and frustration of many young people at the police abuse and the death of young people like Dilan is understandable.”
Today the mother and sisters of Dilan Cruz, whom I have supported in their just claim for truth and justice, were in the Mayor’s Office. They invited me to the event in which they paid tribute to her and I accompanied them with affection and respect.
