As has happened in other cities in the country such as Bogotá and Cali, this afternoon in Bucaramanga a group of citizens came out to express their disagreement with the police procedures in which abuse of authority has been evidenced.

The sit-in began after 4:00 pm in the Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento civic square, in the heart of the city.

The citizens who participated in this day launched harangues to express their annoyance and attacked the uniformed men who were guarding the Palace of Justice. This building resulted in several breaks.

The protesters marched through the streets of the city center. Vanguard headquarters was also attacked with stones. Other buildings also suffered damage and were painted with graffiti.

At this time the Metrolínea service is suspended in the city center. The affected routes are T1, T2, AN2 and AB1. The San Mateo station was affected.

Although there are no blockades in the city center at this time, a concentration is reported on Carrera 27, where a group of approximately 50 people is advancing.

Likewise, a protest is registered in the vicinity of San Pío Park, where detonations of ‘potato bombs’ have been heard.

Due to the violent clashes that have been registered in other capitals, the Metropolitan Police of Bucaramanga deploys a strong operation in several sectors with 1,500 uniformed men.

Members of the Mobile Anti-Riot Squad walk the streets to avoid further disturbances of public order.
