About midday this Wednesday the motorcyclist caravans that are mobilized throughout the city in order to raise their voice of protest against the measure of the Metropolitan Area of Bucaramanga, AMB, to create a platform to track the motorcyclists, held a sit-in in front of the mayor’s office.
Although the demonstration was peaceful, upon reaching Calle 36 with Carrera 15, there were some clashes with Police units for which one person was captured.
The sit-in dissipated minutes later and at this time normality has returned to the Bucaramanga Center.
The annoyance of motorcyclists
The registry is a part of the commitments established with the owners and drivers of the buses and vans of conventional public transport in order to fight against piracy.
The motorcyclists of Bucaramanga, Floridablanca, Girón and Piedecuesta, oppose its creation because, according to them, it is an arbitrary measure that the mayors want to impose. “They want to impose on us that we can only take five people from the family nucleus and if we bring a family member or friend who is not on that list, the motorcycle is immobilized and they make us a ‘comparison’ for informal transport. This is an abuse and violates the right to mobility and private property ”.
Motorcyclist leaders stated that they strongly oppose the creation of the platform because it will harm motorcyclists in the area. “There are more than 500 thousand people affected, motorcycles are a means of transport for the most humble people.”
For its part, the AMB clarified that it is only a voluntary registry, where participants will be able to provide information, which allows, through data analysis, to generate indicators of uses, habits and behaviors of motorcycle users.
