A video in which the mayor of Cartagena, William Dau, is observed sulforated and demanding obedience to the policemen has gone viral on social networks, this Saturday.
The fact that was recorded by fans occurred during the march that Cartagena made this Saturday to protest the death of all the people who have been victims of police abuse.
As explained by a spokesman for the press office of the Mayor’s Office, at noon, at the height of María Auxiliadora, there was an altercation, of words, between several students who participated in the demonstration and some in uniform, for which the Mayor intervened to in order to prevent officers from lashing out at civilians.
“Police listen to me, I am the mayor of Cartagena, and you have to obey me … We do not want violence,” Dau told the uniformed men.
“Thanks to his intervention, tempers calmed down and the rest of the protest went smoothly,” explained the spokesman for the district press office. Read here: Cartagena mobilize against police abuses
On the morning of this Saturday, the people of Cartagena peacefully took to the streets to march against the death of Javier Ordóñez that occurred in the middle of a police procedure and against the death of 11 people in the protests that originated after that new case of police violence. The demonstration was joined by Mayor Dau and part of his cabinet, in a show of support for citizens who are demanding respect from members of the National Police.
The video that is being observed on social networks is after an intervention by the Secretary of the Interior and the Mayor, protecting some policemen from the mob.
