With an exciting first half, the merengue team went ahead on the scoreboard thanks to the scoring of Karim Benzema, who, at minute 23, from mid-range took a strong shot, which had a deflection in a defender, to beat goalkeeper Jaume Doménech.
Minutes later, at 35, Lucas Vásquez made a clear hand in the area, which was marked as a penalty. Carlos Soler charged, but Thibaut Courtois saved; however, on the rebound, Musa invaded the area and scored. The play was reviewed by the VAR and canceled the charge from the white point due to an invasion by the Valencia player, prior to Soler’s shot. The charge was repeated and this time Soler did score.
At the end of the first half, Raphael Varane, in an action in which he tried to clear the ball, ended up getting the ball into his own goal. The play, at first, was not scored as a goal due to the prompt reaction of goalkeeper Courtois, however, the VAR took action and validated the score.
In the second half, Valencia increased the advantage thanks to another two penalties in favor, after a foul by Marcelo and a hand from Sergio Ramos. Carlos Soler was in charge of converting them into a goal.
