A controversy has been unleashed on behalf of the Colombian video game ‘Tombo Survivor’, which arose as a result of the protests and clashes that occurred with the Police. The language used in the application has also generated many reactions.
According to its creators, it is located in the demonstrations that arose after the murder of Javier Ordóñez and the clashes between uniformed men and civilians.
The gamer embodies the role of a “corrupt policeman” whose objective is to hit the ball and kick citizens.
There they must also collect bribes of 50 thousand pesos to recover energy and defend themselves against attacks by civilians.
Of course, the video game has generated multiple reactions.
José Fernando Bautista, former ICT minister, said that this “shows a loss of public trust in the Police. Most of the police officers are very good people, they are people who do their duty, what’s more, many give their lives for other citizens ”. But he added that “the bad elements must be isolated from the institution and it is necessary to redesign and reengineer it, which is vital for it to function better.”
For his part, Rubén Darío Vega, master’s degree in clinical psychology, pointed out that “many times this type of information, which is distorting reality, leads to a series of negative feelings being generated in front of figures such as, for example, the Police that appears there ”.
Retired members of the institution also spoke out and affirmed that this type of content is offensive.
General (r) Humberto Guatibonza expressed that “the fact that some people from the same institution have failed does not mean that we are all like that, that everyone is like that. I think it is the opportunity to get closer and recognize our mistakes and to look all towards the same side, to have a country project towards which we all look and come to a successful conclusion ”.
However, its creators point out that it is about showing those who have deviated from their professional goal.
The video game developer, Magro Play, explained that “the game does not represent the National Police, it represents what a ‘tombo’ is, that is, one who deviated along the way. He is that corrupt policeman, who are those people that we see in videos attacking people with bolillazos ”.
The creators assure that Google is the one that determines the category of the game, according to its content and language, and so far it has not commented on the restrictions that may exist.
The video game already exceeds 5,000 downloads and only users over 13 years of age are allowed to play.
