The Cartagena Fire Department confirmed that eight kiosks were burned in the Playa Tranquila sector, in Playa Blanca, at noon today. This is one of the most visited tourist areas in La Heroica.
At least they spent about two hours putting out this fire, which was caused by tourists in the middle of a retaliation in an act of intolerance, according to the Police.
Some natives explained that they were moments of anguish, because in principle they had to smother the flames with sea water, which was fruitless, since the strong breezes made the flames reach other kiosks. Faced with this difficult situation, it was necessary to call the Cartagena Fire Department, who came to the site with two machines.
In the first images that can be seen from social networks, flames that could exceed 40 meters in height are observed, and the fire spread easily because they were cabins made of wood with palm roofs.
Caused
In the same way, the Metropolitan Police of Cartagena confirmed that the fire was caused by four people, including a minor, after having a discussion about money with one of the owners of the kiosks.
General Henry Sanabria Cely confirmed that they are people of Antioquia origin, including three men, 35, 32 and 28 years old. Also, a 16-year-old girl.
These people, according to what was reported, arrived in a red Chevrolet Corsa vehicle since last Wednesday night. They settled in one of the businesses and began to drink liquor until Thursday morning.
After having an apparent discussion with the owner of the business for money, the Antioqueños proceeded to retaliate and decided to set fire to the establishment, without measuring the damage they could cause throughout that tourist area, where 12 cabins are located together.
It was reported that for this action, the alleged perpetrators were beaten and managed to be rescued by the uniformed men. In addition, the vehicle in which the tourists arrived was destroyed.
These people, responsible for the fire, were captured and will be made available to the Prosecutor’s Office for the crimes of fire and damage to someone else’s property.
