A landslide of great proportions at kilometer 39 + 800 in the road corridor between Calarcá (Quindío) and Cajamarca (Tolima) has restricted traffic on this road.

According to the director of the National Highways Institute (Invías), Juan Esteban Gil Chavarría, the intense rains in recent days caused soil saturation on the Bellavista slope.

The night closings that were established from October 26 will be extended only between the night of next Thursday, December 3 and the morning of Friday, December 4.

Gil added that, due to the fall of material, night activities were suspended to guarantee the safety of the personnel in the area. Taking into account that the road is restricted to one lane, damming is generated.

“The traffic of vehicles through the area will continue in this way until the situation is controlled, in order to preserve the life and safety of users,” said the official.

The entity confirmed that several surveying teams are monitoring the situation to alert about possible movements on the slope. In addition, they moved machinery into tunnel 16 to remove material and from there generate an access ramp to the landslide.

Invías asked drivers to take alternate roads such as Bogotá – Madrid -Facatativá – Villeta – Guaduas – Honda – Mariquita – Manizales – Pereira – Armenia and La Paila.

Or Cundinamarca – Boyacá – Llanos Orientales – Huila – Caquetá – Putumayo – Tolima – Quindío or Risaralda.

It should be remembered that the road already had a night closing in force from Monday to Thursday between 11:00 pm and 5:00 am, from the Américas tollbooth, at kilometer 15 + 800 in Quindío to the Cajamarca bridge, located at kilometer 49 + 800. This restriction does not include Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

The closure began at the end of October to carry out stabilization work precisely on the Bellavista slope, located at kilometer 39 + 900.
