Unfavorable image of Iván Duque grows before Colombians

Responses from 2,570 people reveal that the city in which the head of state has the worst image is Bogotá with 72%, followed by Barranquilla (61%), Cali (60%), Manizales (49%), Medellín (48%), Villavicencio ( 45%) and Santa Marta (39%).

The favorable image, meanwhile, fell from 43% to 37% in the same period, says the study, which has a 3.2% margin of error, and which was carried out from October 16 to 21 in these cities.

By age groups, Duque has an unfavorable image of 76% among the youngest, people between 18 and 25 years old.

For the remaining age groups, the situation only improves as age advances. This is how the head of state’s management sees it:

– From 26 to 35 years old: 29% favorable and 71% unfavorable
– From 36 to 45 years old: 38% favorable and 62% unfavorable
– From 46 to 55 years old: 46% favorable and 54% unfavorable
– From 56 to 65 years: 41% favorable and 59% unfavorable
– Over 55 years: 54% favorable and 46% unfavorable

On the other hand, the Colombian vice president, Marta Lucía Ramírez, went from having a favorable image of 36% last April to 33% in October, while her unfavorable image increased from 64% to 67% in the same period.

Furthermore, Colombians also disapprove of the way the government administers other aspects of the country. “Improving international relations” was the one with the best rating and barely reached 15% of those who rated it as “very good” management, in contrast 45% considered it “very bad” —this percentage is the lowest negative score -.

In the same sense, 56% described Duque’s management as “very bad” to “reduce corruption” and “reduce unemployment”. Very close to there, with a negative 55%, it was reducing poverty and increasing the level of justice.

The Police, which has been involved in scandals due to the brutality with which they have handled social protests, has an unfavorable image of 60%, and the Army – despite other controversies – has a favorable image of 58%.

Favorability of mayors in Colombia

– Jaime Pumarejo, Mayor of Barranquilla: 86% favorable and 11% unfavorable.
– Virna Johnson, mayor of Santa Marta: 84% favorable and 14% unfavorable.
– Claudia López, mayor of Bogotá: 77% favorable and 21% unfavorable.
– Felipe Harman, mayor of Villavicencio: 70% favorable and 15% unfavorable and 15% say they do not know him.
– Jorge Iván Ospina, mayor of Cali: 68% favorable and 31% unfavorable.
– Daniel Quintero, mayor of Medellín: 63% favorable and 36% unfavorable.
– Carlos Marín, mayor of Manizales: 52% favorable and 37% unfavorable.

Regarding the management of the COVID-19 pandemic, the best qualified local leaders are the governor of the department of Atlántico, Elsa Noguera (68%), followed by the mayor of Barranquilla, its capital, Jaime Pumarejo ( 67%).

Behind are the mayors of Santa Marta, Virna Johnson, with 66% and of Bogotá, Claudia López (65%).
