Unemployment in Colombia in November 2020 was 13.3% according to Dane figures – Sectors – Economy

The unemployment rate in Colombia for November 2020 it was 13.3 percent, according to the report on the labor market revealed this Wednesday by the National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane).

This figure represents a reduction of 1.4 percentage points compared to October, when it was 14.7 percent.

With this result, the country’s unemployment rate is close to pre-pandemic levels, since in February, before the restrictions for health reasons began, the country’s unemployment level closed at 12.2 percent according to Dane , although compared to the same month last year the gap is still high, since in November 2019 the unemployment level was 9.3 percent.

The figure is below the 21.4 percent recorded in May, when it reached its maximum level after restrictions due to covid-19.

For november this year 21.31 million people were employed, while for October there were 21.27 million people.

According to Dane, compared to April, when almost 5.4 million jobs were lost compared to the same period in 2019 and the number of employed fell to 16.5 million people, 4.78 million jobs have been recovered, taking into account counts the figure of 21.31 million people employed in November 2020.

The Dane also indicated this morning that compared to November last year, in the national total, the employed population decreased by more than 1.56 million people and stood at 3.27 million, while more than 941,000 individuals entered the ranks of the unemployed population in November of this year compared to the same month in 2019.

For its part, the inactive population in Colombia increased in the eleventh month of 2020 by more than 1.12 million people, in the national total, going from 14.33 million individuals in November 2019 to more than 15.45 million a year later.

For the 13 major cities and their metropolitan areas the employed population decreased by 810,000 people in the analyzed period, reaching a total as of last November of more than 10.2 million people.

At the same time, the unemployed population increased by more than 581,000 people to 1,856,000, according to the statistical entity, while the inactive population, for those same 13 main cities, rose by 475,000 people, reaching a figure close to 6.7 million individuals.
