Carlos Enrique Ramírez, head of the Burns units of the Santander University Hospital (HUS) and the International Hospital of Colombia (HIC), confirmed that no patients injured by gunpowder have been admitted to these wards in the last hours.

The only incident recorded in the middle of this celebration in the Santander capital is a 10-year-old boy who suffered burns when handling paraffin. “They made a ball with the candles, put a candle on it and it fell on his face. It is delicate because he suffered a burn on his face and hands ”.

In addition, Ramírez warned that the occupation in both burn units is full. On the one hand, the HUS cares for 20 patients and the HIC 10 more, most of them are people from Santander admitted for domestic accidents.

For this reason the doctor asked the Santander people not to play with gunpowder and asked for special care with children.

The Metropolitan Police of Bucaramanga reported that in the neighboring municipality of Girón a five-year-old girl suffered an injury to her left eye when handling a spark.
