Due to the traumatic situation that occurred this Monday and the repeated acts of vandalism and social indiscipline by some users in the stations of the system, Transcaribe had to suspend the operation after seven at night. (Read here: Free Transcaribe: Indiscipline, chaos and alleged robberies)

“We regret the effects that this decision may cause on the public, but we are forced to take it, given that under these conditions it is impossible to maintain the operation,” said Sindry Camargo Martínez, manager of Transcaribe.

He added that “we have suffered numerous attacks on the system today, and the disobedience of many citizens, with behaviors contrary to the user manual, even affecting the infrastructure of buses and stations forces us to make this decision. Transcaribe is the system of all Cartagena, and in these complex moments that we live, it is when we most need the support of citizens and the care of a heritage that belongs to all ”.

In addition, he clarified that the SITM will resume its operations at normal hours this Tuesday, warning of the need for good passenger behavior to guarantee continuity in the provision of the service. (Read here: Transcaribe, free until a contingency plan is ready)

It is worth mentioning that this holiday Monday the situation got out of control, to the point that vandalism, aggression by users, agglomerations without any biosecurity measures, among other problems were reported.

“We ask for the intervention of the authorities because we do not want what we are experiencing today to be repeated and we hope that the crisis in the system will be solved soon,” said a system operator.

Mayor Dau speaks

The mayor of Cartagena, William Dau, spoke through a video on networks, in which he stated that he himself had given the order to suspend the service due to excesses in the stations of the system.

“There were acts of violence, many drunkards, people are taking it to party and this is not an amusement park that was opened for them to go out for a walk, this is an essential service that is being provided to citizens,” he said.

He added that “tomorrow the system will resume operation, only if the public behaves well, otherwise, we will have to close the stations again.”

Finally, he asked citizens for collaboration and good behavior in order to guarantee the operation of the SITM, as it is a serious problem that requires the cooperation of Cartagena.
