A 93-year-old patient who was taken by ambulance to the city of Valledupar died in a traffic accident.

The victim was identified as Rafael Zarate, a native of Barrancas (La Guajira), who died at the scene of the accident when he was transferred to a more complex center to save his life.
The ambulance driver, who was imprisoned inside it, was identified as Rafael Felipe Ariza, 32, and suffered fractures to his legs.
Also, José Gregorio Navas Serrano, 50, driver of the truck with trauma to his upper limbs, were also injured; the nurse Alma Luz Córdoba Plata, with a fracture in the pelvis; and a 60-year-old relative of the victim who was traveling as a companion, who suffered trauma to the thorax and abdomen.

The accident was registered during the morning of this Saturday on the road that leads from San Juan del Cesar to Valledupar, specifically in the so-called Y de Badillo, a district of the capital of Cesar.
According to the preliminary report of the authorities, an ambulance of the Asismedt company that provides the service of transfer of patients attached to the Someda Clinic, in San Juan del Cesar; It collided head-on with a gray 4×4 private truck.
Although the causes of the accident have not been determined, it is presumed that it would be a lane invasion by the emergency team.

“It seems that the emergency vehicle invaded the San Juan-Valledupar lane, which hit the Toyota head-on,” explained Cesar’s traffic director, Carlos Vega.
In a video, apparently filmed by the driver of the truck, the facts of the accident are recounted and ensures that the ambulance driver invaded the lane.
“I just had an accident on the San Juan road, I crashed with an ambulance, it completely invaded the lane. I am going on my road from Valledupar to San Juan,” he says in the video in which he evidenced the fact and tried to ask for help .

According to what is observed in the video, the driver indicates that there are injured cyclists, who were exercising this sport.
“I come on my way and I have nowhere else to turn and if I do, I will kill all of you,” he says while talking to a group of them.
Given the severity of the injured people, they were referred to a hospital in Valledupar.
