The 103rd edition of the Giro d’Italia kicks off this Saturday on the island of Sicily with an individual time trial of 15 kilometers starting in Monreale and finishing in Palermo, a day that will serve to award the first ‘pink jersey’ and establish some first, albeit minimal , differences between the candidates for the final victory in Milan.
The chrono, with an urban route, begins in Monreale and, after ascending to the Cathedral, tackles a very rapid descent towards the center of Palermo. After the descent, the second part begins, characterized by long straights connected with wide curves until reaching Via della Libertà, where the goal is placed.
This is how an unpublished edition of the Tour of Italy, which is disputed more than four months behind its usual dates, in May, in a season shaken by the coronavirus pandemic that forced to revolutionize the cycling calendar and concentrate the three great tours in just over two months.
