(CNN) – Golfer Tiger Woods was injured in a “one-car” traffic accident and was released with hydraulic rescue grapples, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) said in a statement Tuesday.

Woods was transported to Harbor UCLA Medical Center with multiple leg injuries and underwent surgery after the accident, according to Golf Digest.

Woods’ vehicle rolled over this morning at the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes. LASD says his vehicle was traveling north on Hawthorne Boulevard at Blackhorse Road when it crashed. Woods was taken to a local hospital for his injuries.

The investigation of the accident is ongoing.

Woods suffered moderate to critical injuries after being pulled from his car, according to Los Angeles County spokesman Henry Narvez. Narvez said another car, which was not involved in the initial rollover incident, stopped after the crash and was rear-ended.

Tiger Woods, 45, has won the Masters Tournament five times (just one behind Jack Nicklaus, the winner), the US Open three times, the PGA Championship four times and the British Open three times. In 2019 he won the Masters for the last time.

Woods previously underwent back surgery, a spinal fusion, in 2017 and made his return to the sport nearly a year later. He then made a remarkable comeback with the Masters victory in 2019.

His progress last year was hampered by another back injury and the pandemic, which severely disrupted the golf calendar.
