Higher education in Colombia is getting better, as confirmed by the list of the best institutions based on research indicators that, according to Sapiens Research, is the only one recognized by the international IREG observatory.

The classification This year it is led, again, by the National, Antioquia and Valle universities, which have been on the podium for several years and stand out for being among the public institutions that maintain the best research indicators in the country.

However, the list brought with it changes, led by the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and the Universidad de Los Andes. According to Sapiens Research, the latter lost fourth place and was surpassed by Javeriana, positioning itself as one of the best in the country.

“In U-Sapiens, the strength of the Universidad Javeriana Bogotá is mainly on the variable“ Magazines ”, where its score is three times higher than the Andes; and then “Postgraduate” (masters and doctorates), with an advantage of almost three points, “says Sapiens.

The sixth and seventh places were unchanged, and were held by the Universidad Nacional, based in Medellín, and Industrial de Santander, whose main headquarters is in Bucaramanga.

The Pontificia Bolivariana, located in Medellín, rose one place to eighth, while the Technological University of Pereira climbed two places to ninth, while the University of the North of Barranquilla, descended to tenth position.

They are followed by the University of Caldas, Manizales; the Pedagogical and Technological University of Colombia, located in Tunja; the University of the Sabana, in Chía; the University of Cartagena and the University of Rosario, in Bogotá.

According to research indicators corresponding to the second semester of 2020:

Sapiens also highlighted that since the 2017-1 version of the classification, the Universidad del Valle was positioned in third place and dropped to fourth in the Andes. The advance of the Javeriana Bogotá also stands out.

“Although the difference in scores between the two universities is not much (0.389), that single advantage put Javeriana-Bogotá in fourth place,” says the research.

In terms of research, these three universities continue to win the podium and once again stood out in the study of the 20 higher education institutions taken into account in the measurement of this second half of the year.

The variables that are taken into account in this classification are: indexed journals, master’s and doctorates, and research groups.

After publishing the list, Sapiens Research clarified that “Ranking U-Sapiens is the most important classification published by Sapiens Research. And it should not be confused with the other rankings published annually or biennially, whose approaches are totally different but complementary ”.

According to the firm, 29% of higher education institutions managed to advance at least one position, while six climbed five or more positions.
