This Tuesday the protocols for the gradual reactivation of international flights in Colombia were announced that start from four airports in the country next Monday, September 21. The initial international flights to be restored are to the United States, Ecuador, Mexico, Bolivia, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

However, the Minister of Transportation, Angela María Orozco, clarified that the reactivation of commercial international flights officially begins on September 19 with a flight from Fort Lauderdale, United States, and that it will arrive in Cartagena.

In the Prevention and Action program, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Fernando Ruiz Gómez, announced that a biosecurity protocol has already been defined for the opening of international commercial flights.

In conjunction with the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Commerce, Civil Aeronautics, airlines and municipalities, the necessary measures were established for the complete reactivation of air, after months of suspension due to the covid-19 pandemic.

The head of the Health portfolio explained thus the main parameters stipulated in the technical document, both for travelers who leave and for those who enter the country.

– In both cases, passengers must compulsorily fill out, prior to entering the immigration control posts, the pre-registration ‘Check-Mig’, which can be found on the website www.migracioncolombia.gov.co. The process can be done 24 hours in advance and up to 1 hour before the trip.

– To enter Colombia, each traveler must present the negative result of a PCR test no more than 96 hours before the stipulated time of travel.

– To leave the national territory, the requirements agreed by the destination country must be met.

– Passenger access to the airport will be three hours before the scheduled departure of the flight.

– Airports should maximize, as much as possible, the use of available baggage carousels to avoid crowds at one point.

– They must also assign specific carousels for flights from high-risk areas.

– For short flights it is recommended not to use the aircraft toilets.

– If the duration of the flight is less than two hours, the cabin crew will not be able to perform service on board.

It was also known that airlines must disclose recommendations to passengers in the departure lounge.

“The use of the mask is mandatory from the entrance to the airport, during the trip and at the port of arrival, regardless of the duration of the entire tour”Ruiz Gómez stressed.

“The Ministry of Health will always be able to carry out, or where appropriate the Health Secretariats, specific epidemiological measures, according to the risks that exist”, He assured, explaining that this will depend on the evolution of the pandemic in Colombia and the country of origin.

Finally, it was established that passengers must remain in the assigned chair throughout the flight.
