Crime in Bogotá: Former Police Commander criticizes data presented by the Mayor’s Office
General (r) Humberto Guatibonza warns, like other specialists on the subject, that at least 70% of crimes are not reported.
Guatibonza’s analysis is worth considering, because in addition to having been commander of the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, he also commanded the Police Gaula, among other important positions.
But apart from that, it underlines the violence with which crimes are now committed in the capital. “What we have seen is that the violent issue has intensified. The criminal response is violent and we see deaths of police (referring to the murder of patrolman Edwin Caro), of people in Transmilenio, of people because they do not hand over their cell phones. What is happening is like a more violent scale, ”Guatibónza said on Blu Radio.
“On the subject of data, I am concerned that they are not real”, he assured on that frequency. “In all the polls, and I rely on the Dane’s, more or less 70% throughout Colombia do not report crimes. You don’t report them for different reasons. It is a very high number. It means that seven people out of 10 do not believe in justice and therefore do not report ”.
