A group of 21 migrants of Cuban nationality were rescued after being abandoned at sea on Capurganá Bay (Acandí) by so-called ‘coyotes’, who transported them illegally, but were shipwrecked.
According to the uniformed police station in the area, The group of 11 men, 9 women and a 2-year-old minor was rescued at around 1:40 a.m. on December 22.

“Upon learning the information, the uniformed officers of the Acandí police station,
together with the units of the township of Capurganá, they

When questioned about the ‘coyotes’ that were transporting them, the migrants indicated that they did not know the name of the boatmen, but that they were two people who promised to leave them on the coasts of Panama in exchange for a sum of money.

“The migrants intended to reach Panama and their final destination was Central America,” the police said.
In the area, judicial investigation and intelligence units of the Department of
Urabá Police carry out constant operations in the Gulf of Urabá to
prevent the commission of transnational crimes such as human trafficking
and find the whereabouts of these known human traffickers
like ‘coyotes’.
