Using a ladder on the back wall of a house was the escape route for criminals who stole at least $ 600 million pesos in gold from La Guaca Joyeros, located in the Portal del Prado shopping center. However, in their eagerness the thieves had to abandon the loot and the other elements they used for the assault.
The theft occurred when two men in police uniforms arrived at the business premises. They made it through the security of the trade center without any problem. A third, according to what can be seen in a security video, was behind them.
For several seconds they were looking at the cabinets, as if specifying what it was that they could carry more easily. Then they approached the glass door that allows entry to the premises. There were two workers talking there and when one tried to open the door, he inadvertently gave way for the criminals to do their thing.
They intimidated and forcibly broke in. Then one of the fake policemen pointed their guns at the workers and forced them to stay down while the accomplice emptied the windows.
In what appears to be a sack he put all the jewels he could and when there was no more room, then the man with the weapon, apparently, despaired and left the place first. The man with the bag came out after not without first warning the hostages that they should not move.
The two bandits left the site walking, without eagerness. One of them carrying the loot as if it were a seizure. But as soon as they stepped outside the mall they started running. They got on motorcycles that, according to General Diego Hernán Rosero, commander of the Barranquilla Metropolitan Police, were private and not similar to those of the institution, as had initially been presumed.
